Degree

Master of Arts in Design with Specialisation in Service Design

Graduate profile

Graduates of the Master of Arts in Service Design:

  • Deepen their design skills thanks to the intensive and interdisciplinary supervision in the project module. 
  • Recognize social or economic relevance and derive research questions.
  • Experiment, design and test new design approaches.
  • Develop and plan independent projects situated between design, society, technology, and economy.
  • Gather findings and insights into the experiences, desires, motivations and needs of the people who use and provide services.
  • Analyze stakeholder requirements and integrate them into the design process using methods of Human-Centered Design.
  • Know a variety of analysis and design methods and apply them appropriately within their project context.
  • Learn Service Design principles to plan and lead design processes in complex stakeholder systems.
  • Model value creation in design to position their projects successfully and in line with the target groups.
  • Facilitate co-production of the service experience with diverse stakeholders.
  • Design solutions which reflect the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. 
  • Can weigh different approaches, justify, document, and communicate them plausibly.
  • Cultivate a personal and critical attitude through the examination of state of the art, in theory, practice and research to substantiate their design decisions.
  • Develop integrated design solutions through co-creation, iterative prototyping and impact assessment.
  • Translate design concepts into testable prototypes.
Specialisation
  • Specialisation in Service Design
Field of activity

Service Design graduates can identify service opportunities in government, industry, civil society, and business. They are well-equipped to conceive of and implement innovative, leading-edge services in healthcare, energy, finance, urban planning, and many other areas of design practice, including policy making.
They often collaborate with specialists from different fields to address a wide range of issues by leading or supporting transformative new service development projects.

Additional requirements for the Master of Arts in Service Design:

  • Practical experience (desired).
  • An original project idea or research question as the basis for the master's project.
  • Curiosity and commitment as a designer to take responsibility for shaping society, technology and the economy in a future-oriented way.
  • Passing an interview as part of the admission process.
  • The ability to communicate in English, the language of instruction (passive understanding, active comprehension).
