Study Trips On the road between industry, arts and crafts

Ever since product design emerged as a discipline in the middle of the 19th century as a reaction to industrialization, there have been many different movements. Each of it has positioned itself between industry, arts and crafts. Since textile design finds itself in the same field of conflict, we would like learn from the historical positions. For a week, we go to the places where the movements originated, trying to understand their relevance for the time of their creation and to find out, if and how contemporary designers have a relationship to the design history of the respective places. The study trips are conceived as interdisciplinary vessels together with object design. Accordingly, the program is compiled across genres and programmes. In the context of the field trip we are often allowed to look deeper behind the scenes than it would be possible on private trips. The exchange between students and lecturers takes place during the day in museums, workshops and studios and continues at dinner, in the theater and in the bar.
