Classical areas of activity
Typical areas of engagement for illustrators are children's books and other illustrated publications such as comics and graphic novels and working for media or graphic design agencies – especially in the areas of culture, knowledge-transfer and advertising. The on-going revolution in communication and media technologies is increasingly opening up new fields of application, for example in games, movies and animation. Some graduates specialise in visual didactics, exhibition design or visual education; others are involved in social projects. There are graduates who work as curators or participate in publishing, and some find their place as artists on the contemporary art scene. Most illustrators rely on flexibility, alternately working on commissions and their own projects. As an illustrator, you get around in the world, determining your own life.
