The Department of Design, Film and Art aims to promote the exploration of diversity issues in its Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. To this end, from 2027 onwards, it will annually award prizes to two student projects that address a diversity issue in a well-researched and pioneering manner.
The prize for an individual is worth CHF 1,000. If a collective of authors is awarded the prize, the prize money amounts to CHF 1,500. Students and alumni may nominate themselves for the prize.
The award recognises projects that demonstrate courage, initiative and creativity in championing diversity issues and fostering a discourse critical of discrimination. Key areas of focus include gender, age, ethnic and cultural background, social background, disability/chronic illness, sexual orientation and identity, as well as religion and worldview.
Criteria:
- The work must be of social relevance and/or relevant to the Department of Design, Film and Art.
- The work must do justice to the complexity of diversity issues.
- The work must engage with its subject matter in a well-founded and pioneering manner.
- The work must demonstrate a high degree of originality or practical applicability.
A jury comprising several members will decide on the award of the prizes.
In 2026, the prize will launch with a pilot project, for which special deadlines apply.
Works, including final-year projects, from the calendar year 2026 may be submitted.
The submission deadline is 31 October 2026.
Entries should be described on a single page. Visual material may also be submitted. Please compile everything into a single PDF file and email it to diversity.dfk@hslu.ch. If the entry is a film, a clip of no more than ten minutes’ duration must be submitted in addition to the one-page description.
All those who have submitted a project will be notified by 21 December 2026.
The prize is expected to be awarded in March 2027. The winning projects will be exhibited or screened in the foyer in a suitable format.
