Besides classrooms and studios, the new five-storey building with its 10,000 m² of floor space houses the Lucerne School of Art and Design’s workshops. The pilot project “3D Workshops of the Future” and the comprehensive development project “Workshops 2020” fundamentally redesigned the workshops, which now offer students optimal conditions to develop their creativity. The workshops consist of a number of zones, facilitating accessibility. Professional guidance ensure that the equipment is used correctly. In addition, after familiarising themselves with the workshops, students may for the most part use them on their own. A new works hall is available around the clock for students’ use. Thanks to the workshops’ proximity to the specialisations, which for the most part are located on the same floor, the distances students have to walk have been considerably reduced. In addition, all floors are connected by a rapid and spacious goods lift as well as a passenger lift.
The rough planning has been completed. The Lucerne School of Art and Design experts are now working on the details so that the workshops will be ready by the autumn semester of 2019.
