Specialist skills and knowledge are not the only success factors for planning, delivering and managing research projects – methodology and generic research skills are just as important. With its extensive range of services and resources, the ZLLF helps doctoral students, research associates and lecturers at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) to build and improve these skills.
The ZLLF's concise range of courses reflect the key aspects of successful research and the relevant skills required. Research courses empower participants to consolidate and deepen cross-disciplinary generic skills such as managing research projects, attracting funding, presenting findings to the academic community, and handling research data. The courses are generally taught in German. However, participating as an English speaker is possible as well.
A mentorship programme helps HSLU members wishing to gear their career towards research and become part of the research community in their field. To this end, seasoned researchers regularly sit down with their mentees to discuss experiences, challenges in academic practice, personal goals and potential next steps in ongoing research projects. Experts from the ZLLF help HSLU members to find a suitable mentor and offer strategic and administrative guidance throughout the mentorship.
With its networking and information events for current and prospective researchers, the ZLLF promotes the establishment of a scienticic community at the HSLU. During an annual writing retreat, researchers can engage deeply with their research, discuss it in an informal setting, and gain new insights and receive feedback in the process.
For specific expert advice – e.g., on methodological issues – the ZLLF can establish contact between HSLU members and relevant experts. The Empirical Methods website is a valuable resource in this area.
