In terms of security, the password associated with a user account is of key significance. Passwords protect the IT services offered by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts from unauthorised access. It is therefore important for you to make sure to immediately change your personally issued student or employee password as soon as you receive it. As a rule, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts does not force password changes. However, it is advisable to change passwords on a regular basis. Never share your password with anyone and do not keep it written down. Electronic password vaults must be encrypted. Under no circumstances should you reveal your password if you are prompted to do so in an email or on a website (phishing).
The following complexity requirements apply for passwords:
- Minimum password length: ten characters, of which one each must be from either of these categories (valid characters):
• Lower case: a-z
• Upper case: A-Z
• Numbers: 0-9
• Special characters: _ + - ? # * @ ! $ % ~ = / \ . , ; : { } [ ] & " ` ' ^ |
- Words in any language that might be listed in a dictionary or encyclopaedia may not be used.
- Proper names, last names, first names, addresses, birthdays, licence plate numbers etc. may not be used.
- Previously used and then changed passwords may not be reused.
