Electronic devices are in constant danger of being attacked by viruses or trojans. For this reason, all PCs and notebooks capable of accessing the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts network must be equipped with state-of-the-art anti-virus software. Institutional devices are automatically equipped with the required security applications
Computers and associated user accounts which our security systems find to be infected by viruses, malware or other malicious software may be locked immediately and without warning for security reasons. Infected devices are often used to distribute spam. It is therefore of utmost importance that you always install the latest security updates and virus signatures. Never open an email from an unknown sender. Never follow the instruction to enter your user ID and password into a web form that has been sent to you by email. No legitimate operator of an IT infrastructure will ever ask clients to provide username and password, be it by email or telephone!
There are various excellent freeware antivirus programmes on the market that come without additional licensing costs. They tend to be available for both Windows and macOS devices. This is a (non-exhaustive) list of antivirus software.
