From May 14–16, 2026, Basel will once again transform into a hub for fans of film, games, comics, fantasy, anime, and cosplay: FANTASY BASEL – The Swiss Comic Con invites visitors to experience three days of creativity, entertainment, and community across more than 100,000 square meters of event space. The convention is one of the largest pop culture events in Switzerland, bringing together attendees from across the tri-border region – from fans and cosplayers to creative professionals from the international scene.
In 2026, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts will be represented at FANTASY BASEL with three dedicated booths. We look forward to presenting our degree programs in the creative and digital fields to interested visitors and to sharing insights into innovative projects from teaching and research.
Digital Ideation
At the intersection of design and computer science, creative projects emerge through interdisciplinary teamwork. The following student games will be playable at FANTASY BASEL 2026: “Project Babel,” “Big Cheese,” and “Bench Game.”
On site, the developers will share insights into the creative process behind the games and provide an inside look at the degree program. In addition, an alumni team consisting of Nabil Bhuiyan, Alex Häberlin, Jonathan Beeler, and Adrian Bumann will present a further development of their game “The Copperfield Department” (Swiss Game Awards – Best Student Game 2024). Alumnus Michael Stucki will also showcase an enhanced version of his game “Supersonic Bridge Racing,” which originated during his studies.
Animation
Dipper Pines, ENA, Furina, Hatsune Miku, Kokichi Ouma, Kris Dreemurr, Leon S. Kennedy, Gumball Watterson, Mario, Pomni, Rumi, Shadow Milk Cookie, Shadow the Hedgehog — and many more. They are your heroes. You admire them, you love them, you laugh with them, you suffer with them. But what gives them character? What gives them a soul?
It’s animation. Switzerland’s only public Bachelor’s degree program in Animation showcases its work across three technologies: CGI, 2D, and stop motion. Visit our booth at FANTASY BASEL 2026. Here, you can test your talent for animation, connect with our students, watch our latest productions, and learn more about our Bachelor’s program.
Immersive Technologies
Dive into the world of immersive media: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and interactive experiences are at the core of this future-oriented degree program — ideal for anyone who wants to shape digital realities. Switzerland’s first Bachelor’s degree program in Immersive Technologies combines technical skills in concept development and implementation with expertise in areas such as Human-Computer Interaction and agile project management — with a focus on serious games as well as augmented and virtual reality. At our booth, you can try out our XR headsets, connect with students and faculty, and experience mixed realities live.
Our two Bachelor’s degree programs in Immersive Technologies and Digital Ideation showcased innovative student projects at separate booths.
What did visitors experience at our booths?
- Immersive Technologies:
Visitors experienced the latest developments in augmented, virtual, and mixed reality up close. Our students presented the AR/VR projects they had already developed during their first semester, seamlessly blending the boundaries between physical and virtual worlds. In addition, the heads of the degree program were on site to provide information about the curriculum and program structure.
