Envelopes and Solar Energy Making optimal use of solar energy

Research at the Research Group Envelopes and Solar Energy (RG EASE) focuses on daylight and photovoltaics. Building envelopes are designed to make optimal use of incident solar energy based on architectural and energy-related aspects, for which concepts and technologies are developed.

In the highly specialized testing and simulation laboratories at the RG EASE, the photometric and electrical parameters of light, materials and photovoltaics are measured, simulated and validated.

Projects

The RG EASE manages several major research projects that are funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the Commission for Technology and Innovation (KTI). These projects are an integral part of the federal energy turnaround strategy and the Swiss Competence Centers of Energy Research (SCCER). They also include the simulation and modeling of daylight control systems, the development of innovative architectural PV façades and the promotion of sustainable lighting using daylight.

Modeling and simulation of daylight control systems

In the course of the energy turnaround, buildings have to become more efficient in their use of natural resources. At the same time, the growing comfort requirements of the users must be met. The CC EASE highlights the extent to which this is possible.

team

The team of architects, IT specialists, electrical engineers and physicists at the RG EASE is in charge of interdisciplinary research. The research-oriented staff (two postdoctoral students and three doctoral students) is supported by other members with practical experience so that the research benefits international / national science as well as the regional economy. Between two and four international guest researchers join the team throughout the year, with international exchanges carried out not only at the project level but also individually.
