Sorption Research on technical sorption processes

The research group SORPTION, led by Dr Mirko Kleingries, researches and develops technical sorption processes for energetic applications to increase the energy efficiency of a system as a whole and to enable the use of renewable energies.

Dehumidifying and cleaning

A property of sorption materials is to take in or bind other substances. They can be used to dehumidify or clean gases, for example the ambient air.

Dieses Bild zeigt Salzkristalle auf einem Haufen.

Store energy

Sorption storage systems can store heat and cold indirectly and almost without loss for an arbitrary amount of time. Moreover, these storage systems have much higher energy densities than conventional storage systems.

Dieses Bild zeigt die Flammen eines Feuers.

Heating with sorption

Sorption materials can take in or bind other substances. During this process heat is released that can be used. For example in the application of sorption materials in heat pumps.

Dieses Bild zeigt Eiswürfel, die pyramidenförmig aufeinander gestellt wurden.

Cooling with sorption

The ability of sorption materials to take in or bind specific substances can be used in different ways for cooling applications.
