The Thermal Energy Storage research group optimizes and develops thermal storage systems while taking into account the dynamics of cyclical processes, energy generation and consumption, plus the efficiency of the system as a whole.
A project of the CC TES in cooperation with the company Swisspor was presented on TV in the SRF program 10vor10. The project is called GEAS and enables existing structures to be converted into thermal energy storage facilities with minimal investment costs. The contribution was broadcasted on 16 September 2020.
Latent heat storage systems utilize the phase change of the storage material from solid to liquid in order to store heating and cooling energy. Modeling, design and optimization are key skills of the research group.
At the CC TES the role of various storage technologies in the energy system is integrally investigated.
Long term storages allow bridging seasonal imbalances between energy production and consumption. The new launched innovation platform SESAI promotes the know-how transfer between research and industry.
Industrial processes and products often place high demands on temperature stability. The CCTES examines and defines innovative solutions to meet these needs.
Thermal energy storage systems are already used in many different ways in building technology. This research also looks into new solutions in load management, energy efficiency and the room climate.
Thermal energy storage systems can play a decisive role, above all when associated with discontinuous batch processes.
The storage of thermal energy is always dependent on the materials. The thermal energy storage research group has a wealth of expertise at its disposal regarding storage materials in a wide range of applications.
Phase-change dispersions are a very good way of generating pumpable fluids with an apparently increased thermal capacity in defined temperature ranges.
