Collagen polymerization New approach for collagen polymerization for optical applications

Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in humans and animals. It can be dissolved in acid and polymerizes in a neutral environment again, forming a solid hydrogel. Collagen gels are excellent biomaterials allowing cell ingrowth. Therefore, numerous medical products based on collagen gels have already been developed. Now, a new approach will be used to test the potential for optical applications. For this purpose the necessary hardware shall be developed. This interdisciplinary work includes:

- working out the requirements based on tests in the laboratory,
- drawing the mechanical structures (CAD),
- designing the electronic circuit,
- Arduino programming as well as first test of the hardware.

You can expect an exciting work, which gives insight into an extraordinary and exciting research field.
