Work experience Learning by doing!

Admission to the Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering program requires professional experience in the field. This requirement applies to all students at Swiss university-level institutions and promotes practice-based learning.

Required work experience:

The required work experience can be obtained through a 12-month full-time internship, which takes place before the start of the second year of study. This extends the total duration of the program to four years.

Work placement: working in a company

After attending the technical training course in the first study year, students without professional experience in a relevant field must complete eleven months of work experience.
It is the students’ own responsibility to find a suitable work placement, be it in Switzerland or abroad. However, the HSLU’s “Career Service” offers support throughout the process.

Before the start of the work placement, a description of the practical activities must be submitted to the head of program for approval. At the end of the work placement, the employer must issue a certificate of employment containing a description of the student's tasks and a record of the hours worked.  It must be presented to the senior assistant upon completion of the work placement.

Learn more about the work placements approved for the study program here. If you have any queries about work placements, the senior assistant (macarena.sanmartinruiz@hslu.ch) will be happy to help.
