The Business Engineering | Innovation Bachelor’s program combines technology, business and design. It focuses on developing and optimising products, services and business processes, as well as topics such as innovation and digitalisation. Practical projects allow students to apply what they have learned to real-world challenges.
During the program, students choose one of three specialisations and set their own individual focus. The program can be completed full-time, part-time or alongside employment, offering a high degree of flexibility.

The program covers a broad range of subject areas and develops diverse competencies.
Mathematics
In the mathematics modules, you acquire the mathematical foundations for engineering, business, and data analysis. You learn differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, optimization, as well as the use of numerical methods and software tools such as Python. These competencies form the basis for engineering and analytical challenges throughout your studies.
Physics & Natural Sciences
The physics modules provide fundamental knowledge in mechanics, thermodynamics, oscillations, and waves. You learn to understand, model, and apply physical principles to technical systems – an essential foundation for product development and industrial processes.
Engineering & Technology
These modules provide engineering fundamentals ranging from design and materials to electrical engineering and mechatronics. You learn to design, simulate, and practically implement technical systems – often complemented by laboratory work and project assignments.
(Mechanics & Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, CAD & Simulation, Mechatronics, Development of Mechatronic Systems)
Computer Science & Digital Systems
You develop competencies in programming, data processing, networked systems, as well as the fundamentals of data science, artificial intelligence, and intelligent systems. The focus lies on the application of digital technologies in business, product management, and industrial processes.
(Applied Computer Science, Python Basics, Distributed Systems, Intelligent Systems)
Business & Management
These modules provide business administration knowledge with a focus on marketing, finance, strategy, and product management. You learn to make entrepreneurial decisions, analyze markets, and manage products throughout their entire life cycle – often through business simulations and practice-oriented case studies.
(Marketing, Accounting, Controlling, Strategic Management, Product Management)
Design & User-Centered Design
How are products created that people truly want to use? In these modules, you learn to understand user needs and translate them into innovative solutions. Using methods such as Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, prototyping, and creative techniques, you develop ideas step by step into testable products.
(Design Fundamentals, Design Prototyping)
Project & Practical Modules
Project modules form the core of the program. You work in interdisciplinary teams on real-world challenges from industry, develop business cases, prototypes, and technical solutions, and gain valuable practical experience.
(Context 1 & 2, Innovation Project, Engineering Product Development Projects, Industry Project)
Bachelor’s Thesis
At the end of your studies, you work on a challenging research question from a company or an applied research project. In doing so, you combine your technical, methodological, and interpersonal skills to develop well-founded, practice-oriented solutions.

Admission Requirements
The ideal qualification for this degree program is a completed vocational apprenticeship in a building services engineering profession combined with a vocational baccalaureate. Applicants with a general academic baccalaureate can gain the required practical experience through the Practice-Integrated Bachelor’s Degree Program (PiBS) or through a professional internship. Applicants aged 25 or over who do not have a vocational baccalaureate may be eligible to enter an admission program.
Studying Abroad
As part of our exchange programmes, students can spend a semester at one of our partner universities abroad, gaining valuable international experience and expanding their personal and professional networks. Combining an exchange semester with specialist modules taught in English and mentoring international guest students gives students the opportunity to earn the «International Profile» certificate. The International Office provides support with all questions related to international exchange programs.
