The day started with Thierry Délemont’s (T Ingénierie SA) keynote speech «3ème pont sur le Bosphore - Relier des continents». The bridge, which won the IABSE Outstanding Structure Award in 2018, was an exciting example to warm the audience up for the main part of YES2018, the plenary presentations by eighteen young engineers, who reported from their completed or ongoing projects. The high quality of all presentations made the choice of this year’s winners of the jury prize a difficult task. The judges ultimately conferred the awards on Caroline Bouvet, Jonas Mächler, Mirhat Medziti, and Michael Mühlemann. The audience had a chance, like last time, to also select a winner, who was Roman Sidler.
The moderators Albin Kenel, Roland Bärtschi, and Konstantinos Voulpiotis together with Martin Bender offered three parallel seminars. Very active participation by the audience showed the interest of the attendees in the discussed issues. Professor Joseph Schwartz closed the official program of YES2018 with his inspiring keynote «Die Kunst des Tragwerks», opening the following Apéro Riche with lively discussions between young and experienced engineers.
