Life support systems in space Air, food and waste on earth and space stations

Algae and other microbes can be grown on Earth and on space stations in automated bioreactors to provide food and health products. Algae, yeasts and bacteria produce a variety of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and vitamins that could be refined into products that would contribute to a circular, more sustainable bioeconomy.

Commercial membranes remove carbon dioxide and release oxygen (O2) from algae bioreactors and can be incorporated into algae facades for buildings or space stations.
