Why
To make the future worth living, we need more than ambitious concepts and urgent appeals. Above all, we need competent change-makers who can sustainably shape society, economy, and technology together.
The BA Creative Transformation is aimed at everyone who wants to contribute to meaningful change in our way of life and economy with a concrete project idea, positive energy, and openness to new ways of thinking and working. On the one hand, the program provides the necessary 'transformative literacy' to contextualize and reflectively develop one's own project. At the same time, the necessary 'transformative agency' is acquired to initiate and advance concrete and impactful transformations through one's own project—in companies, NGOs, public administration, educational institutions, or within independent ventures. Depending on the interests and concerns of the students, the focus can be directed toward different fields of action. Effective climate protection, sustainable digitalization, practical circular economy, realistic common good economy, co-creative neighborhood development—the possible topics, focal points, and practical contexts are as diverse as the personalities who come together and collaborate in the BA Creative Transformation. What unites everyone: the shared will to shape the future together sustainably and attractively.
How
The curriculum of the BA Creative Transformation adapts to the respective interests and concerns of the students and their projects. The program enables flexible movement between university and practice. It combines the teaching of transformative skills and project-specific expertise with the development and testing of one's own transformation concepts under real conditions. The interplay between the university and extra-university practical and professional contexts is actively promoted, and the mobility between the different ways of thinking and working of the respective participants is intensively accompanied.
Teaching offerings for the development of creative and design competencies from art and design are combined in the BA Creative Transformation with the opportunity to individually deepen the topics relevant to one's own project in interdisciplinary modules, test them hands-on, and develop them iteratively. The program thus becomes an organic learning, development, and implementation context in which change-makers can develop their own transformation-design profile in close contact with reality.
Despite all opportunities for individualization, peer learning also plays an essential role. After a common foundation semester at the beginning of the program, exchange between students is promoted throughout the entire course of study through a project workshop format, shared context modules, and regular excursions—and of course, there is also informal exchange in the shared studio of the BA Creative Transformation in Viscosistadt.
By Which Means
Sustainable transformation design requires, in addition to professional knowledge, above all a willingness to experiment, creative ability, and design competence. Therefore, the Department of Design Film Art at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is the 'home base' of the BA Creative Transformation. Creative skills are taught and tested here based on the thinking and procedures of the arts and design.
The professional expertise needed for students' projects can be acquired through individually arranged mentoring and teaching offerings at other departments of HSLU and, if necessary, external experts. The program offers a high degree of interdisciplinary mobility and promotes access to the fields of architecture and technology, business, informatics, social work, health, and music according to the interests and needs of the students.
Central is the work on one's own project. This takes place where the concrete transformation need is anchored in reality and where the challenges that the project addresses are 'at home.' This can be, for example, the professional context from which students come and in which they can remain partially involved during their studies. Here too: The concerns of the students and the requirements for productive work on their projects guide the individual curriculum design.
For Whom
The program is aimed at everyone who wants to professionalize as driving forces of future-oriented transformation design: personalities who are committed to the realization of sincere sustainable development beyond buzzword repetition. Who see collaboration with others as an essential condition for creating a livable world for all—including the non-human environment. And who know that this requires ethical and aesthetic awareness.
The BA Creative Transformation is particularly suitable for students with a specialized or professional baccalaureate who, after initial experiences in their job or civil society engagement, now want to develop further in a university program without having to give up the connection to their previous professional or other activities.
Where To
The graduates of the BA Creative Transformation actively help shape the lived reality of the future. They initiate and advance sustainable change processes in their professional environments and beyond—committed and with a reflected value compass, professionally competent, together with others, and with pronounced design awareness. They are not discouraged by complex challenges and know how to develop well-thought-out concepts and implement them into effective measures with concrete impact.
