Datahouse provides data science services and provides this challenge with the online news platform Watson. Datahouse will be monitoring this project from a data science perspective and will provide the tool to Watson.
Moneyball goes Football.
Data in football is becoming more important. Football clubs are hiring an increasing number of data specialists and there are even clubs that have taken up the Moneyball approach, such as Brentford, who have recently been promoted to the English Premier League and are taking it by storm.
But how can the football fan on Watson benefit from this football data?
For example, many people nowadays enjoy Fantasy Football. This is where people create their own team of real players and compete against friends/colleagues. What better way to win your friend leagues than with data driven decision making when picking your players?
Football fans always know best but with this tool they could finally validate their arguments with data.
The overall challenge here is to come up with a simple to use analytics tool that is accessible to non-techies and that is fed by data that is openly available.
This is mainly building flexibally configurable dashboards with with dynamically changing data sources.
Data from https://fbref.com/ about the top 5 European football leagues will be used for this challenge.
Part of the challenge will be to understand what data is around, categorize and organize it, and put it into a database.
During the hackdays we will be implementing this player-quality-model using the data. For this we will be developing a front-end.
