The Sport Hackdays 2022 will take place as follows:
Clever data products can reveal hidden information and thus add value for athletes, clubs and organizations by boosting performance, optimizing team composition, and allowing for more efficient recovery phases – or by identifying opportunities for sponsorship or fan engagement when combined with the right business model.
To link our prototypes and innovations with exciting new business models, we are teaming up with the University of Applied Sciences of Graubünden (FHGR) in hosting the Sport Hackdays. Its students in the Sport Management program will prepare promising business models, which our students then use as basis for developing innovative data products.
Our partners:
Let's face it, traditional business models that require fans to physically flock to stadiums to experience the sport and have intense emotions are more difficult to reconcile with increasing digital capabilities and lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditional sports thus need to find new ways of building fan communities, something the virtual world surrounding e-Sport has mastered with ease (see our blog).
Data plays a vital role in exploiting new opportunities. The example of the America’s Cup illustrates nicely how data can make it easier to understand a type of sport and bring it closer to a broader audience, thus raising the awareness level.
The Sport Hackdays provide perfect conditions for getting started in the world of sports data because they put sports organizations, sports tech companies and sports analysts in touch with each other and allow them to use data for developing prototypes with which to promote a sport.
The Sport Hackdays are an integral part of our Sport Data Innovation Platform. Following the Hackdays, specialists of the Sport Data Innovation Platform can develop the prototypes further as part of a simple step toward market maturity.
Advantages for sports organizations
You will meet sport tech companies, universities and data scientists who can explain the potential uses of data. Short projects and prototypes are fully geared to the needs of practitioners. And you will meet specialists and may want to join your data projects.
Benefit for sports-tech companies
Sports-tech companies can demonstrate not only their products directly but also meet members of the data science and university communities and learn about the value of the work in the field and the potential that’s hidden in data.
Benefit for data science students and other hackers
Sports is a fast-growing and attractive domain for data scientists, many of whom will benefit from unique possibilities to learn about the industry and test their mettle as data scientists.
