From a business administration perspective, it takes a holistic approach to strategic topics, transformation and change, future-oriented corporate structures, organisational efficiency, and collaboration within business ecosystems.

Overview

The major in Corporate Development (formerly Value Network Management) prepares graduates for strategic tasks in companies, such as process development, digitalisation, sustainability and organisational design. Graduates analyse markets, develop business strategies, optimise processes and manage growth projects. They work in areas such as business development, strategy and management consulting and qualify for staff or leadership positions in management and administration.

Major Corporate Development

The Corporate Development major focuses on an integral, structure- and process-oriented approach as well as the value-oriented development of sustainable companies and their value creation networks. Students deepen their knowledge of the following topics in a theoretically sound and practice-orientated manner (in the form of various practical projects):

  • Development of sustainable corporate strategies and business models as well as digitalisation of business models/value chains,
  • Analysis and design of transnational value chains and internal/inter-company business processes (network organisations; supply chain management; process management, audit management),
  • Leading change processes in complex organisational forms including corporate culture, knowledge of mergers & acquisitions and technology management
  • Implementation of change with topics such as intra- and entrepreneurship, project and change management as well as innovation management.
 

What does this major qualify for?

This major qualifies graduates for employment in a wide range of business management activities in companies in all sectors.
Graduates are able to develop and implement corporate strategies and anchor them in the organisational structure and processes. Graduates are able to support digital transformation and change and restructure companies and core processes sustainably. They have a deep understanding of strategic management in complex corporate environments and sustainability issues.
Graduates are also in demand to lead projects for inter-organisational corporate development, implement growth strategies or in internal management consulting as well as in the development of business ecosystems. In addition, the degree qualifies graduates for management positions in which long-term growth targets are pursued and new business opportunities are identified.
Knowledge in areas such as technology management, sustainable supply chain management and innovation management round off the profile and make graduates highly versatile.

Commencement of studies

The 2025/26 academic year begins on 8 September 2025 with a compulsory induction week for new students. The semester officially starts on 15 September 2025 (calendar week 38).

Students have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters at one of our partner universities. See Exchange & International Affairs.

Place of study

The first year of the generalist degree programme is offered either in Lucerne or at the Zug-Rotkreuz campus (exception: certain foreign languages are only offered in Lucerne). Remaining generalist study programme in Lucerne, individual generalist modules from higher semesters are also offered at the Zug-Rotkreuz campus if there is sufficient demand. Specialisation (major) at the Zug-Rotkreuz campus.

Cross-disciplinary modules
Students at the three Lucerne universities (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, University of Teacher Education, University of Lucerne) benefit from an interdisciplinary study programme. With ISA modules, students from all disciplines expand their knowledge beyond the boundaries of their own specialism.
 
The Language Centre is the learning and competence centre for foreign languages and interculturality. It offers students and staff the opportunity to acquire and expand the qualifications and competences required for international and intercultural tasks and contacts.
