What is true for the country as a whole is a way of life in Lucerne. Located in the heart of the Swiss Alps, this city is a hub of international tourism and transport and is considered a role model for many other destinations. Whoever decides to study international tourism at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts will be able to put their newly acquired knowledge and skills to the test right on their doorstep – an experience that you will not want to miss, not for your future job in tourism, not for your professional plans in any other service industry anywhere in the world.
Graduates of our tourism bachelor programme obtain a relevant education, which qualifies them for a wide range of employment opportunities. While popular graduate career paths typically include working in a leading position in the management of destinations or of tourist associations, this is only part of the story: the fact that our graduates‘ expertise in tourism is solidly anchored in the principles of business administration equips them with the prerequisites for exciting employment opportunities in many areas outside tourism.
- The tourism programme is taught by experienced lecturers with significant past and current industry involvement (for example, three of our lectureres were former tourism business and destination directors )
- The Institute of Tourism is a place of active research and continuously and consistently enriches our courses in a variety of ways: not only are new research findings incorporated into our general teaching, but students are also presented with the latest challenges and opportunities that the tourism industry may face.
- Tourism is a classical service sector, so people working there require excellent communication skills. Our programme serves that need with a significant focus on successful communication as well as on contemporary marketing techniques and know-how.
Professional Internship Programme – Where Education Meets Industry
Since January 2007 the Tourism & Mobility programme, in cooperation with the University’s Career Services, has provided a professional internship opportunity for students. Selected students are thereby enabled to work in an enterprise that acts as a „mentor“ during a specified period of time. This has proved for participants to be a highly valuable learning experience in a professional environment.
