The Foundation Course in Art and Design does what it says, namely provides an excellent basis for advanced studies in art, design and film at home or abroad. It is a prerequisite of most bachelor degree programmes. By the end of the Foundation Course students have a comprehensive portfolio of work that attests their aptitude for further study. However, the Foundation Course is no guarantee of admission to a degree programme.
There are two stages to the admissions procedure. The first consists in independent work on set themes that are announced during an admissions open day in early December. The work must be submitted by end of January. Selected applicants are then invited to a half-day admissions procedure held mid-February, during which they must complete one or two set tasks. Final decisions on admissions are announced in late March/ early April.
Further helpful information can be found in the Information on the admission process (only available in German).
