Studying in Lucerne
The BA Visual Communication – Camera Arts program is open for Erasmus Exchange students who have already acquired a foundation in photographic and visual media, graphic design, visual communication, film and interactive design. Particularly welcome are students who are interested to study contemporary image practices and transmedia storytelling beyond the traditional approaches and their borders.
Incoming exchange students can join the second-year program during the Fall semester. This includes two CA modules: Transmedia Storytelling I and Transmedia Storytelling II.
An exchange period during the Spring semester implies taking part only in one CA module: Transmedia Storytelling III and an elective transdisciplinary module (one out of 25 modules) hosted by the school’s transdisciplinary department (IDA).
Beside the practical modules exchange students subscribe to additional courses in theory.
Foreign students will find a welcoming atmosphere at Camera Arts. In the spirit of the program we explicitly believe in the power of international and intercultural exchange.
Due to the international orientation of the program, students and faculty, which includes classes taught in English and German (bilingual), foreign students can easily integrate into the study program, student groups, and projects.
Application
Interested students are requested to submit the following documents (PDF):
– curriculum vitae;
– motivation letter;
– recommendation (if possible);
– portfolio with various types of works/projects in photography, visual media, film and design (PDF, online).

Camera Arts students going abroad
During the Spring semester of the second study year, Camera Arts students can apply for a study exchange to a partner university in Switzerland or abroad. Being in a different place and culture, students can have a unique personal and educational experience. At the partner university they can discover alternative approaches and study subjects in a curriculum, which is complementary to the Camera Arts at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
For general information about the Erasmus Exchange program for outgoing students, please refer to the section Exchange Programme. A comprehensive list of partner institutions of the Lucerne School of Art and Design can be found in the section Partner Schools.
