Instead of the classic admissions procedure with portfolio presentations, a 24-hour open day was held in April 2018 for applicants to the Bachelor in Fine Arts and Art & Design Education. Our goal was to challenge existing structures at art schools by establishing a personal dialogue with future students right from the start. Applicants themselves determined what they wanted to present either during or even, in some cases, all throughout the 24 hours. Be it an exhibition, a reading, a round table, a concert, a performance, an intervention, a film screening, a cooking group, a city walk or even a classic portfolio review, the motto that day was: anything goes.
24 hours, rich in conversation, performance, art and experimentation. We had an intense time of it, discussing our interests, confronting one another with new ideas and concepts – and so ran a risk together. We staff were thrilled about the applicants’ strongly motivated and committed participation and instantly looked forward to welcoming future students to the Bachelor in Fine Arts and Art & Design Education.
