Art Library in the Museum of Art Lucerne

In cooperation with the Lucerne Art Library Society, the library has been continually refurbished in recent years. It comprises some 5,000 artist monographs and exhibition catalogues and has been located in the media room since 2014. It may be freely used in situ during the museum’s opening hours.

Viper Archive

The VIPER Festival, an international film, video and new media event, may be considered the most important platform for the Swiss media art scene that grew up between 1979 and 2006. From the festival’s foundation in 1980 to its departure in 2000, Lucerne was one of the main centres of video and media art in Switzerland. In 2009, the festival’s assets were acquired by the Lucerne School of Art and Design and – with the support of the Lucerne Art Library Society – are now to be made accessible for research and to interested members of the public.

Design and Art Collection

The “Design and Art Collection” is an institution that significantly defines the identity of the Lucerne School of Art and Design. It is available for lecturers’ use at all times. Stefan Gritsch initiated the “Design and Art Collection” in 2015 and in academic year 2016/17 set it up in the rooms of the research department. The collection basically consist of drawings, paintings, prints and works on digital media by former students and lecturers as well as current lecturers. The collection will continue to grow, extended and curated by ever newly appointed custodians.
