The various campuses of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the University of Teacher Education Lucerne all have an extensive Wi-Fi network. It is designed for everyday use and unequipped for bandwidth-intensive or time-critical applications.
Guests (without a user account) of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts or the University of Teacher Education Lucerne may connect their personal device (computer, mobile phone, tablet, etc.) with the internet from the university network via SMS login. This connection is valid for 30 days maximum and requires the authentication of the guest’s mobile number.
The VPN enables transparent access to all central data and services of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the University of Teacher Education Lucerne via an encrypted connection. Persons with personal/non-institutional devices must first manually install the application necessary to establish a VPN, whereas the VPN software is pre-installed on institutional devices.
As soon as a VPN connection with the network of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts has been established, the central network drives can be accessed.
Please note: from 1 Mai 2019 onwards, connecting to VPN requires multi-factor authentication.
The VPN software (HSLU VPN Installer) can be downloaded from the software download portal of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Please note: In order to be able to connect with the VPN, a current version of the VPN software (HSLU Pulse Secure v9.1 or newer) as well as an up-to-date anti-virus programme must be installed on the computer. Please also note that the anti-virus software must run with the latest signatures. Devices that have not logged into the network for a prolonged period of time sometimes have to be connected with the internet for a few minutes prior to connecting with the VPN to update the signatures.
The “eduroam” Wi-Fi network enables secure, world-wide internet access for the international research and university community. Students, researchers and employees of universities in the eduroam scheme have free internet access in all other universities participating in the network. In its network, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts authenticates with the use of the IEEE 802.1x standard. This method prevents unauthorised devices from connecting with the network via publicly accessible network connections. On managed devices, the required adaptations run automatically. For self-managed devices, an authentication process according to the following instructions applies.
The EEE Portal is a web application that enables lecturers and students to register their own IoT devices and then use them via the EEE network.
