
CC Innovation in Intelligent Multimedia Sensor Netzworks
Distributed intelligence from the sensor to the network – technologies combined for leading-edge product innovations.
The main focus of our R&D is in product innovations for multimedia and emergency response and public safety networks (video, still image, audio data) in which we conceive intelligent concepts on all levels from the design of intelligent cameras and intelligent network architectures (wireless and wired) to complete surveillance systems. Our motivation is the implementation of intelligence into the system from the sensor to the network with the goal of increased performance such as speed, reliability and availability through optimized use of the available resources.Our target application areas are in
- Aircraft
- communication, sensor and power distribution networks
- Large and complex buildings like airports, stations, hospitals, etc.
- intelligent ad-hoc-networks and their fast deployment, e.g. for
disaster management in such buildings
- vision based security and process automation / business intelligence
systems
where we develop applications for and with our local and international industrial partners, by leveraging public funding programs for product innovation like KTI and EUREKA. We concentrate not only on the research and development of these applications, but also on the implementation into commercial products and solutions for our partners and customers.
Such applications are based on our broadband communication technologies
- Powerline Communications (PLC)
- Wireless Ad hoc Networks
where our team has many years of experience from channel modeling in application specific environments (e.g. transmission in trains or aircraft) to transceiver design optimized for such typical hostile channels to network protocol design,
and on
- Video Content Analysis
where members of our group played a pioneering role in the conception and design of robust applications and products, e.g. intelligent video surveillance.
We contribute with our own R&D work by cooperating both with universities and industrial technology leaders.
Our work focuses on niche applications, through which the combined strengths of these integrated technologies can be optimally utilized.
