Absences
In the case of unforeseen absences, students are expected to call the secretariat (T +41 41 228 54 64), which will then inform the lecturers accordingly. In the case of an absence of more than three days, students must inform the head of the course in writing (present a doctor’s note in the case of an illness). Please refer to the section on “Leave” for planned absences.
Change of address
Please inform one of the secretariats of any change in address.
Admission and examination requirements
Admission and examination requirements
As a part of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (LUASA), Lucerne School of Art and Design is subject to the higher-ranking Admission and Examination Requirements of 24 June 2005 that are valid for the Bachelor course. At a lower-ranking level, the Academic Regulations for the Bachelor’s course at Lucerne School of Art and Design of 24 June apply. These contain the provisions governing the courses offered at LUASA. Information on the admission requirements for the Foundation Course and the Vocational Studies in Graphic Art/BMS can be obtained from the school secretariats.
AHV/AVS
The personal details of all students age 18 or more are forwarded to the AHV/AVS compensation fund in Lucerne, which is responsible for collecting contributions for the state insurance plan. Students are responsible for paying their own contributions. Each missing contribution year can lead to a considerable reduction in pension benefits at a later time and can have serious consequences in the case of a disability claim.
Student ID
While enrolled at Lucerne School of Art and Design, all students will receive a student ID that allows them to attend exhibitions, museums, concerts etc. free of charge or at a reduced rate. If lost, the ID will be replaced at a cost of CHF 10.
Days of leave
Students seeking leave from a course must submit a written request to the head of the field. Forms to this effect can be obtained at the secretariats. Applications for leave must be filed at least two weeks in advance.
Leave/interruption of studies
Students who seek to interrupt their studies must file a written request that lays out the reasons to the head of the field at least four weeks before a new semester begins. They will remain matriculated for the duration of the leave and remain liable for any course fees – provided no other arrangement has been made. The following are deemed to be legitimate reasons for leave: pregnancy, parenthood, accident/illness, military service, and other special situations.
Sports
Besides the unlimited possibilities in the region to pursue sports individually, students can participate in programmes offered by Campus Lucerne with likeminded individuals of LUASA, the Teacher Training University of Central Switzerland, and Lucerne University.

Accidents
In the case of an accident, students should call T +41 (0)41 228 54 64 or contact 144 (emergency number) or the cantonal switchboard at 5111.
Accident insurance
The new Federal Law on Health Insurance (KVG/LAMal) has been in force since January 1, 1996. Under its provisions, each Swiss resident must be insured against illnesses and accidents. It lays out the basic type of health coverage that is needed, which also includes the cost of a recovery in the case of an accident. Students and trainees at Lucerne School of Art and Design are not insured against accidents through the school. The school therefore asks students to review their policy in this regard and inform their accident insurer that the course they are attending at the school also includes independent work in wood and metal workshops. Please note the following special situation: Students who have an apprenticeship contract (the class in graphic design/BMS) continue to be covered against occupational and non-occupational accidents by Lucerne School of Art and Design. All other students must take out insurance against illness and accidents.
Copyrights
Under LUASA’s bylaws (Art. 28), Lucerne School of Art and Design retains the full copyright to any results of work completed as part of a course at the school. In individual cases, e.g. with a view to rights of use (in particular for commercial purposes), the school and the inventor (student) can negotiate an agreement on sharing rights with the inventor.
